Books

I am currently reading two books. One on the Christian Crusades, a textbook. The other a fictional biography about a London prostitute, born in 1748. Today I walked to my local city library. It was nearly empty. Shelves and shelves of knowledge and ideas stood freely available to anyone with interest. Comfortable armchairs and reading tables, even private reading cubicles with huge windows, were there for the using. How is it that ignorance abounds in such a society as this? Practice requires study. While surfing on the Web affords a dizzying amount of reference information at a glance, few seem committed to truly digesting what they consume at this buffet of information. Then, if they do digest, even fewer seem to be putting these mental nutrients into action and practice outside the realms of finance and consumerism. Part of my pratice is trying to keep reading, learning and applying what I learn to my practice of mindfulness and compassion.
