Tides
Trends in human evolution are like the tides. Some tides are higher than others. Some are lower. Yet, the tides relentlessly take more and more land over at one place and deposit more sand at another. The 1990s were high-tide years. The current decade sees the tide going out. The influence of human greed and the corruption it propagates pulls the tide of evolution back. The influence of remarkable humans, devoted to progress and peace, is like a full moon which propels the tidal waters higher and higher. I see around me war, poverty and the increasing irresponsibility of those in government to the common people. I see the rich becoming more and more aggressive and entitled. Ancient occurrences in a modern time. I try to focus on the tides as I walk here by the ocean's edge. I try to accept the inevitability of progress and decline. I always try to remember that our Sun will someday go dark.
