Education
Education is often equated with academic degrees. Degrees are certainly evidence that the holders have looked at some books and passed some tests. However, degrees do not adequately insure their holders are educated in life and those things necessary to further human evolution personally or socially. Most politicians hold law degrees, for example. Before there were huge public universities, education and knowledge advanced significantly over the centuries by the determination and curiosity of independent human beings. Education was a quest. For some special people, it still is. And most of us take these movers of society for granted. Edison is imprinted on our modern minds as a scientific genius because he succeeded in making a fortune from a technology he applied after it had been developed by many brilliant and obscure minds before him. Think of all the devices around you right now. Do you know who developed half of them? Do you think their developers were only motivated by fame and wealth? Education is a necessary part of practice. Learning about the external Universe, learning about the personal internal universe. These pursuits offer endless food and exercise for the mind, the heart and the spirit.
