WHY I AM NOT A DYSTOPIAN

Dystopians are those who imagine a world or state in which everything is bad. I am actually quite far from being a dystopian. I am a realist and a disappointed optimist. My realism is based in a pretty well founded education in sciences. My optimism is based in my experience of the world and the people in it. My disappointment is based in my observation of the absolute failure of human beings to live to their potential as a species.

An example. Human beings have evolved from rock-wielding primates to engineering geniuses in a relatively short period of time. From cathedrals to spacecraft, our species has demonstrated the capability to take Nature's ingredients and produce remarkable things for the advancement of civilization. However, just as much time and energy has been spent taking Nature's ingredients and really screwing up civilization. Rather than working on making the life of every human being safer, healthier and wealthier, our species has created a gaping disparity between rich and poor. More and more poor people and less and less rich people by percentage of the overall population.

Capitalism has won ... for now. Capitalism is on the verge of creating a truly dystopian world. Capitalism promotes overpopulation. Capitalism promotes competition among human beings by encouraging them to climb to the top of the wealth pyramid at the expense of other human beings. Capitalism promotes the exploitation, not conservation, of resources. Capitalism has no conscience. Crony Capitalism is a gangster cult seeking to create a new global aristocracy.

Mindfulness, awareness, attention to reality, skeptical analysis ... these are antithetical to dystopianism. However, these traits require something which Capitalism through its propaganda is seeking to extinguish. These traits require an independent and self-educated mind.

My negativity is based in sore disappointment in a species which allows The Evil to rule it, to cajole it, to make it feel good despite the terrors within it, to hammer it into conformity and complacent silence. Capitalism is not intrinsically evil, but it is used by The Evil. The Evil are those who have reached the top of any pyramid and still look up for more instead of reaching down to pull the rest of humankind  along to a better and equal quality of life.
