CARTOON PRESIDENT
I find the show reassuring. I recently watched a Brit comedy series which ripped the Windsors to shreds. While I was watching it, I kept thinking, "Why the hell don't we do more of this in the U.S.?" Maybe Stephen Colbert saw it and thought the same thing. About time.
The New Left and Third-Wave Feminists have absolutely no sense of humor. This show would be wasted on them. I can hear them raging at the cartoon figures, as though they were the real First Family. Most representatives I have seen from that camp seem truly chuckle-impaired. Perhaps that is the allure of Marxist victim politics. Who knows? Who cares?
I think this show humanizes Donald Trump for most of us. That is a good thing. The Cartoon President's character is vain and brash and totally narcissistic, like most heterosexual men I have known. The Donald is just an exponentially amplified version of the bourgeois man in his later years. Color, ethnicity, degree of wealth really don't come into it. They are often boorish. The endless assertion of heterosexual dominance in the form of parentage, siblings, children and grandchildren. All taken for granted by them as fascinating and necessary prelude to getting to know them.
The tragedy of modern feminism is its refusal to deal with one basic fact: Women create, condition and enable the male monsters in our societies.
Cartoon Donald is a badly socialized child, like a great many adult heterosexual men. How did he become POTUS? Well, 53% of White female voters voted for his real counterpart. Does this mean that 53% of White female voters, a majority, are racists? Does it mean they are invested in an unjust society? Does it mean they do not wish to welcome legal immigrants and actual refugees from violent persecution? Does it mean they do not wish to help those children brought here illegally?
I will look forward to belly laughs with every week's installment of Our Cartoon President. It is therapeutic as well as fun. As long as we support this kind of brash free speech, our democracy has a chance. If those without any humor shut it down, we are truly doomed.
